Role Overview:

We are seeking a strategic and hands-on Head of Data Services to lead a transformative data modernisation programme within a key public sector organisation. This is an opportunity to drive the evolution of data platforms, ensuring they align with government priorities, digital transformation initiatives, and the needs of citizens and stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and implement a data modernisation strategy - Oversee the transformation of legacy data platforms into resilient, scalable, and secure systems that support public service delivery.
• Lead and grow a high-performing Data Services team - Recruit, mentor, and manage a team that enables evidence-based decision-making across government functions.
• Collaborate across departments and agencies - Work closely with policy, digital, and service delivery teams to integrate data solutions that enhance efficiency and transparency.
• Enhance data governance and compliance - Ensure alignment with public sector frameworks, including data ethics, GDPR, and government security standards.
• Optimise data services and automation - Embed data-driven processes within operational and policy decision-making by integrating data platforms with CI/CD pipelines and cloud environments.
• Ensure operational resilience - Maintain 24/7 data availability, supporting critical services with robust monitoring, risk management, and incident response.
• Proven experience in the Public Sector Space

Essential Requirements:

• Public sector data strategy experience - Strong background in data governance, policy alignment, and handling sensitive government data.
• Technical expertise - Deep knowledge of Microsoft Azure and SQL platforms, with experience in Microsoft Fabric or equivalent public cloud technologies being highly desirable.
• Enterprise-scale data management - Proven ability to design and manage large-scale data integration, storage, and analytics solutions for government services.
• Operational leadership - Experience overseeing mission-critical systems, ensuring uptime, security, and effective out-of-hours support.
