Technical Architect – SC Cleared
Inside IR35: £600 – £700 per day
Hybrid: 3 Days in Bedford
Start date: ASAP
The Enterprise Architect leads the design and governance of integrated Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology (OT) architectures across complex environments. This role is critical in ensuring the alignment of technology strategies with business objectives and compliance requirements, delivering secure, resilient, and interoperable solutions. You will work with stakeholders to create tactical and strategic solutions to support project deliverables.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Architecture: Define and maintain enterprise architecture frameworks spanning IT and OT domains, aligning architecture with MOD standards (e.g., Secure by Design, JSP 453). Document current state systems and define future “to-be” architecture requirements.
- Technology Integration: Design architectures that bridge traditional IT systems (cloud, networking) with OT environments (SCADA, ICS, sensors), ensuring secure data exchange while maintaining operational integrity.
- Governance & Compliance: Establish architecture principles and standards in line with JSPs, NIST, and ISO/IEC frameworks. Lead on developing critical artefacts such as HLD, LLD, and System Security Plans. Ensure compliance with Cyber Essentials Plus, DefStan 05-138, and relevant defence security regulations.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Act as a trusted advisor to senior leadership on technology roadmaps and risk mitigation. Communicate and collaborate effectively at all levels to mediate complex discussions and ensure architectural coherence.
- Innovation & Future Readiness: Lead technical business continuity/disaster recovery planning. Drive digital transformation initiatives across corporate, secure, and classified networks.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Proven experience in enterprise architecture within defence, aerospace, or critical national infrastructure.
- Strong knowledge of both IT domains (Servers, VMWare, storage, cybersecurity) and OT systems (ICS, SCADA, PLCs).
- Familiarity with architectural frameworks and methodologies such as TOGAF and ITIL.
- Understanding of secure-by-design principles and accreditation processes for classified systems.
- Experience of legacy IT transformation.
- SC Security clearance (strongly preferred) or the ability to obtain it.
