SC Cleared AI Engineer (Advanced / GenAI / LLMs)
Contract | UK Remote | £550-£700/day
We’re working with a client building advanced AI capabilities in secure, high-assurance environments. They are looking for highly technical AI engineers with strong academic backgrounds and proven experience building complex AI systems in production.
This is not a general ML role or a software engineering role with AI exposure. We are specifically looking for engineers who can design and build advanced AI solutions from first principles.
What you’ll be doing:

• Building advanced AI systems including RAG, GraphRAG, and agent-based workflows
• Designing and deploying end-to-end AI pipelines
• Working on complex retrieval, reasoning, and optimisation problems
• Evaluating and improving model performance beyond baseline approaches
• Contributing to architecture decisions for scalable AI systems

What we’re looking for:

• Active SC clearance (or recently lapsed, eligible for reactivation)
• Strong academic background (Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, AI or similar)
• Proven experience building production-grade AI systems
• Deep understanding of:
  • LLMs and their limitations
  • retrieval systems (RAG, embeddings, hybrid search)
  • agent frameworks or orchestration (LangGraph or similar)
• Strong Python skills and experience with modern AI tooling

Nice to have:

• Experience with GraphRAG or knowledge graph-based systems
• Experience with evaluation frameworks or model benchmarking
• Background in regulated environments (government, defence, finance)

This role is suited to engineers who can build and own complex AI systems, not just integrate existing tools.
