Generative AI Engineer / Applied AI Engineer

Remote (UK) | Contract
We’re working with an AI technology company investing heavily in next-generation intelligent systems powered by Large Language Models and modern machine learning infrastructure.
They’re looking for an engineer to help design and deliver AI-driven applications that combine machine learning, Generative AI and scalable backend systems.
This role focuses less on model experimentation and more on building reliable AI-powered products used in live environments.

The Role

You’ll work on the design and implementation of AI services powered by LLMs and advanced ML techniques, helping move AI capabilities from proof-of-concept into production.
You’ll collaborate with engineering and product teams to build systems that integrate language models, data platforms and cloud infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Develop applications powered by Large Language Models and Generative AI
• Design Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) workflows
• Integrate AI services into backend platforms and APIs
• Build scalable pipelines supporting AI inference and automation
• Work with vector databases and embedding strategies
• Support deployment and optimisation of AI services in cloud environments
• Contribute to system design and AI architecture decisions

Required Experience

• Strong Python software engineering background
• Experience working with AI or machine learning systems commercially
• Exposure to LLMs, NLP or Generative AI applications
• Experience building APIs or backend services
• Cloud platform experience (AWS, Azure or GCP)
• Understanding of deploying services into production environments

Nice to Have

• Experience with LangChain, LlamaIndex or similar frameworks
• Knowledge of agent-based or autonomous AI workflows
• MLOps or DevOps exposure
• Experience working in product-led or startup environments

• £575 – £625 PD
