Data Engineer – Data Deletion – SC Cleared
SR2 is supporting a major UK government department on a strategic data transformation initiative within its newly formed Data Office. We’re looking for an experienced Data Engineer to join the Data Deletion workstream, helping to design and deliver secure, policy-aligned data engineering solutions to support data lifecycle management.
You’ll help reduce data risk and increase compliance by building out automated pipelines and tooling that enforce retention and deletion policies across sensitive, large-scale data estates.
Due to the nature of the role, candidates will require active SC clearance.
Key Responsibilities

• Design and build scalable data pipelines to automate tagging, classification, archiving, and deletion
• Develop solutions to align with GDPR, FOI, and internal retention policies
• Support data discovery and profiling efforts across structured and unstructured data
• Work with architects, policy leads, governance teams and stakeholders to translate compliance into code
• Implement metadata tagging and lineage tracking for audit and reporting purposes
• Collaborate in agile, multidisciplinary teams using modern delivery practices

Essential Experience

• Strong background in data engineering, ideally within secure or regulated environments
• Expertise in ETL/ELT development
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g. Azure, AWS, or GCP) and modern data stacks
• Experience implementing data lifecycle or retention/deletion frameworks
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative, delivery-focused mindset
• Experience with metadata tools (e.g. Informatica, Collibra, Azure Purview) is desirable
