The Role

Working alongside infrastructure, security and operational teams, you’ll ensure changes are thoroughly validated and supported by clear documentation and a practical handover.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver Debian production upgrades using an established approach, verifying functionality and bringing systems onto a supported baseline.
  • Build and configure a replacement RHEL environment, migrate services from Solaris and manage production cutover.
  • Strengthen SSH/SFTP controls and account administration in line with agreed security requirements.
  • Improve configuration automation, file-transfer and housekeeping scripts, monitoring and operational checks.
  • Produce runbooks, share knowledge with support teams and document outstanding risks and recommendations.

Essential

  • Strong hands-on Linux systems administration experience across Debian and Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
  • Experience delivering production upgrades and migrating Unix/Linux services.
  • Ability to investigate system configurations, dependencies and operational issues.
  • Practical knowledge of SSH, SFTP, access controls and user account management.
  • Scripting and automation experience for configuration, file transfers and routine maintenance.
  • Experience planning cutovers, validating changes and preparing operational documentation.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work closely with security and support teams.

Desirable

  • Experience migrating workloads from Solaris to RHEL.
  • Familiarity with HSCN-connected environments.
  • Experience modernising legacy infrastructure and handing services over to ongoing support teams.

The Details

  • Contract role
  • Duration: Until the end of December initially and then until March + extensions
  • IR35 status: Outside IR35
