Applied AI Engineer – SC Cleared

We are looking for an experienced Applied AI Engineer to support the design and development of an AI-first operating model for a new UK law enforcement organisation.

The role combines AI engineering, solution design and hands-on development, helping shape how AI assistants and agents are integrated into organisational processes, governance and decision-making.

You’ll work within a multidisciplinary Agile team, taking solutions from discovery and design through to working prototypes and production-quality implementations.

This is an outside IR35 and remote role, offering an initial 2.5 days per week ramping up to full time.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design AI-first operating models, including AI agent governance, human oversight and automation opportunities.
• Build and test LLM-based applications, AI agents and workflows using production engineering standards.
• Develop cloud infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
• Evaluate AWS and Azure platform options, identifying technical trade-offs.
• Use AI-powered discovery and agentic coding tools to accelerate research, development and delivery.
• Collaborate with stakeholders, produce technical designs and demonstrate working solutions during Agile sprints.
• Support user testing and co-design activities where required.

Essential Skills & Experience:

• Strong hands-on experience delivering LLM applications, RAG pipelines, AI agents and evaluation frameworks.
• Proficiency in Python or TypeScript.
• Cloud engineering experience with AWS or Azure.
• Experience using agentic coding tools and reviewing AI-generated code.
• Previous delivery experience within UK Government or regulated environments.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
• Understanding of security, data governance and responsible AI principles.
