Azure Data & BI Architect (Synapse) | Remote

We are looking for an experienced Azure Synapse Architect to lead the design and technical direction of a large-scale MI and BI platform. You will take ownership of the architecture across Azure Synapse Analytics, Microsoft Fabric and Power BI, creating a secure, governed and scalable reporting environment.

The Role

Working as the senior technical authority for MI/BI architecture, you will translate business reporting requirements into effective enterprise solutions. The role covers the full platform lifecycle, from data modelling and integration through to governance, deployment and performance optimisation.

Key Responsibilities

• Define the end-to-end architecture for Azure-based MI and BI applications.
• Design scalable data products and dimensional models using star and snowflake patterns.
• Establish standards across Power BI datasets, dataflows, workspaces and reports.
• Architect solutions using Azure Synapse Analytics, Microsoft Fabric and Azure Data Factory.
• Integrate the Azure reporting platform with an AWS-based data ecosystem.
• Define approaches for capacity management, gateways and deployment pipelines.
• Introduce CI/CD and version-controlled release processes for BI assets.
• Improve query performance, refresh times and dataset efficiency.
• Establish workspace structures, access controls, sensitivity labelling and row-level security.
• Provide technical leadership and mentoring to BI developers and MI engineers.

Essential

• Significant experience designing enterprise MI or BI architectures.
• Strong commercial experience with Azure Synapse Analytics and Power BI at scale.
• Hands-on knowledge of Microsoft Fabric, Power Query/M and dimensional data modelling.
• Experience managing Power BI Premium or Fabric capacity and data gateways.
• Strong SQL skills and knowledge of cloud data platform integration.
• Understanding of Power BI governance, RLS and automated deployment practices.
• The ability to communicate complex architectural decisions to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• SC Cleared

Desirable

• Experience integrating Azure and AWS data platforms.
• Microsoft certifications covering Azure Synapse, Data Factory, Fabric or Power BI.
• Previous delivery within a regulated or public-sector environment.
• Experience supporting enterprise reporting or MI modernisation programmes.

Clearance: Candidates must be eligible to complete BPSS or SC clearance, depending on the assignment
