Product Owner – SC Cleared

We are supporting a growing consultancy delivering large-scale digital transformation programmes across the UK public sector. They are looking for an experienced Product Owner to join their team on a 9-month contract, working closely with delivery teams and client stakeholders to shape and deliver high-impact digital services.

This is an excellent opportunity for a technically minded Product Owner who is comfortable operating at the intersection of business needs, delivery teams, and client stakeholders within complex public sector environments.

The Role

As Product Owner, you will work closely with technical leads, delivery teams, and client-side product leadership to translate requirements into structured, deliverable work for engineering teams. You will play a key role in shaping product backlogs, defining priorities, and ensuring delivery teams have clear, actionable user stories that align with programme objectives.

You will also support early-stage solution design during presales activities, helping to shape delivery approaches before embedding into active projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Work with technical leads and stakeholders to translate requirements into features, epics, and user stories.

• Own and manage the product backlog, ensuring work is clearly defined and prioritised.

• Facilitate backlog refinement, sprint planning, sprint reviews, and workshops with delivery teams and stakeholders.

• Collaborate with client-side product owners and internal teams to ensure alignment on delivery goals.

• Structure development work in a way that enables engineering teams to deliver efficiently within agile frameworks.

• Support sprint planning and backlog prioritisation based on delivery goals and technical dependencies.

• Participate in workshops and stakeholder discussions to shape requirements and product direction.

• Contribute to presales solution design and support new project mobilisation where required.

Essential

• Proven experience working as a Product Owner within agile delivery environments.

• Active SC Clearance.

• Strong experience working closely with technical teams and engineering leads.

• Ability to break down requirements into clear user stories, features, and epics.

• Experience facilitating agile ceremonies, including backlog refinement, sprint planning, and sprint reviews.

• Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.

• Ability to quickly embed within teams and adapt to established delivery practices.

Desirable

• Previous experience working on UK public sector digital programmes.

• Technical background (many successful Product Owners in this environment are former developers or technically trained).

• Experience supporting presales or solution design activities.

• Familiarity with large-scale consultancy-led delivery environments.

The Details

Contract: 9 months
IR35 Status: Outside IR35
Rate: £450-£500+
Location: Flex but Hybrid, 1 to 2 days on site in Bristol weekly.
