Flight Control Software Engineer
Flight Control Software Engineer
Contract Embedded Linux Engineer
Oxford | 6 Months | Hybrid | Outside IR35 | £600 per day
This is a contract for engineers who are comfortable below the application layer.
You’ll be working with a specialist engineering SME developing robust, portable electronic systems where performance, stability and hardware integration genuinely matter.
The focus is Embedded Linux at the lower levels – bootloaders, kernel and device drivers – not high-level UI work.
What you’ll be doing:
Developing and modifying Linux device drivers
Working on bootloader development (e.g. U-Boot)
Supporting kernel configuration, optimisation and debugging
Hardware bring-up and board support package (BSP) work
Debugging at the hardware/software boundary
Supporting video or streaming pipelines where relevant (e.g. GStreamer)
You’ll work closely with electronics engineers to ensure software integrates cleanly with custom hardware platforms.
What you’ll bring
* Strong experience with Embedded Linux (kernel + driver development)
* Bootloader experience (U-Boot or similar)
* Solid C
* Experience with BSPs, cross-compilation and build systems (Yocto / Buildroot beneficial)
* Experience with ARM-based platforms
* This is a technically hands-on role in a small, capable team where you’re trusted to deliver without layers of bureaucracy.
Contract Details:
* 6-month initial contract
* Outside IR35
* £600 per day
* Hybrid working (Oxford-based, onsite as needed for hardware integration)
If you enjoy working close to the metal and solving real embedded challenges rather than sitting in abstraction layers, this contract is worth a conversation.
